Other traps turn on their right side. This has an entirely different effect on the mouse. The door no longer stops at the entrance, but continues into the trap sometimes crushing and instantly killing the mouse. This is the ancestor of the modern mousetrap.
Note: Because this version of the mousetrap is only sometimes effective at trapping and killing the mice, it will not become the dominant trap and it will coexist with the humane live mousetrap. This allows for evolution through competition. May the best mousetrap win...
