10) Why should science have an opinion about Gods existence? Isn't agnosticism more favorable and less biased and therefore more likely to uncover the truth?

Theoretically, science does not have an opinion about God's existence, although most scientists probably do. Ironically, one of the primary goals of the ID movement is to advocate a scientifically agnostic position regarding biological change.

If ID's purpose is to advocate agnosticism why is it's main goal to rid the world of naturalism? Naturalism can (and does) advocate agnosticism too.

Id is most certainly not trying to 'rid the world of naturalism'! Where on earth did you get that idea?** A great deal is the result of natural, material causes. ID is simply saying that maybe not everything is.

But mainstream science does assume atheism by assuming naturalistic materialism. Wrong or right, that is as it sits.

I have no problem with this, since the supernatural is out of our reach anyway. I don't think most scientists reject the idea that there is a possibility of some type of god or "force" that may never be explained by science. I think it is comforting to most people that there may be something else out there bigger than we are. But I think they, like I, don't see how it can be proven empirically.

No, not proven -- but indicated strongly. Consider, though, that when evolution is taught in schools, the kids are not dumb. They know this means there is no God or that God is simply marginal in the universe. So whether or not scientists themselves believe or don't believe something is not relevant here. What is being put forward to the public is.

Consider this as well, when kids go to Sunday school they are not dumb either. If Genesis and special creation are taught literally, they are going to see a conflict between what they learn in school and what they are taught in church and they will be forced to make a choice. Some will accept Christianity and doubt the validity of science, some will accept science and doubt the validity of Christianity. It's a lose/lose situation. The tragedy is, it doesn't have to be. They can both be compatible.

Note: **What gave me that idea????? She did! (See Question 9)

So If ID and Naturalism are compatible, what's all of the fuss about? Why can't theists, agnostics and atheists believe what they like on a personal level? Science needs to be quantifiable. Opinions don't count unless you can back them up with testable evidence.

She seems to be concerned that evolution is teaching our children that God is only a marginal force in the universe. The Pope doesn't seem to see it that way and he believes in evolution. I think evolution is getting a bum rap from creationists. Perhaps the real reason children believe that God isn't directly involved with the universe is because no one has heard from or seen him for several thousand years!

Look, most people WANT to believe in God. The idea of a God isn't really that hard to sell. But what people do have a problem with, is when belief in God insults their intelligence. Science isn't telling people that evolution is anti-God, Christians are telling people that. If you give logically thinking, open minded people a choice between Evolution and Christianity, they are probably going to pick evolution and reinterpret god or become agnostic or atheistic.

Creationists have done Christianity a disservice by turning it into mythology. They have completely distorted the scientific method and the laws that govern nature so that they can justify their fundamentalist beliefs based on a literal interpretation of the Old Testament. So let's let them sit around and discuss whether or not Adam and Eve had belly buttons and let the rest of us deal with real issues, learn something, and try to save us from ourselves!

Another Note: Science is defined as the knowledge or a system of knowledge covering general truths or the operation of general laws within nature especially as obtained and tested through the scientific method. That's it. Science studies nature and uncovers truths within it... very successfully I might add. The theory of evolution is a triumph of science. It is not anti God and it is not pro atheism. It is neutral.

Supporters of the theory of evolution come from every country and represent every religious group and philosophy. Real science has no opinion about God and anyone who tells you that it does is flat out lying or misinformed.

By comparison, the ID movement is made up of Christians mostly from America.... that's it. I don't need to go on anymore because anyone with an open mind already understands my point and anyone with a closed mind will never get it anyway.
